Alternatif Bank’s sustainability journey started in 2019 by taking the decision to set up a Sustainability Committee. On the other hand, economic, environmental and social implications of sustainability have been at the Bank’s corporate culture and business cycle for many years.
Alternatif Bank’s successful practices in corporate governance area, corporate social responsibility projects with social impact and waste management as the indicator of respect for the environment are clear confirmation of this. At the Sustainability Committee, which was set up at the end of 2019 with the leadership of Kaan Gür, the CEO, sustainability areas, which the Bank conducts activities in and areas that need to be expanded, were identified and defined as priority areas for the committee. These areas are:
- Environmental and Social Governance
- Qualified Education
- Equal Opportunity
- Accessible Banking
- Ethical Banking
These topics were grouped underfiv e working groups and the Bank’s sustainability activities started.
Alternatif Bank Sustainability and External Relations team was established in 2020. Upon prioritising the sustainability topics, Sustainability and External Relations team was established in April 2020 to conduct sustainability activities more focused, to define medium and long-term Sustainability Strategy, to integrate this strategy to the Bank’s operations and to form a structure to provide clear contributions to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
This team leads the Bank’s sustainability activities, ensures functionality of working groups and executes secretary duties of the Sustainability Committee. The same team provides guidance on designing the medium and long-term Sustainability Strategy, integrating the strategy to the Bank’s operations and increasing the contributions of Alternatif Bank to Sustainable Development Goals.
Alternatif Bank Sustainability sub-groups consist of employees from each level of related teams based on priority areas. Sub-groups participate in the initiatives of the working group they are a part of, create ideas and implement projects in addition to their current duties, activities and projects. They help integration of activities conducted to business manners of the team they belong to and increasing sustainability awareness in the Bank.
