Gökhan Songül graduated from İstanbul University, Department of Business Administration in 2002 and received his master’s degree in International Economics from Marmara University in 2005. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Finance and Banking at Istanbul Commerce University. He began his career as Credit Portfolio Manager at Garanti Bank between 2004 and 2007 and he then served as Credit Underwriting Manager at ABN Amro Bank Türkiye Office from 2007 to 2009. Songül held the positions of Chief Credit Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Board Member at The Royal Bank of Scotland Türkiye Office between 2009 and 2014. Songül joined Alternatif Bank as Credit Underwriting Executive Vice President in 2014 and he held this position until 2022. He also served concurrently as Acting Restructuring and Legal Follow-up Executive Vice President between 2020 and 2022. He subsequently served as Corporate and Business Banking Executive Vice President for a period in 2022. Following his position as Credit Underwriting Executive Vice President at Türkiye Kalkınma ve Yatırım Bankası between 2022 and 2025, he held the same position at DenizBank AG, Austria for approximately one year. Songül joined Commercial Bank of Qatar as CCO in February 2026 and he began serving as Acting CRO as of June 2026. Songül was appointed as a Board Member of Alternatif Bank and Vice Chairman of the Board at Alternatif Finansal Kiralama in October 2026.
